The European Union Center is pleased to share the news that U.S.-German Forum Future Agriculture, a project initiated by Aspen Institute Germany in collaboration with University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, has been extended for three years, through 2027. The aim of the project is to promote transatlantic dialogue on common challenges for the field of agriculture and rural regions and pave the way for a more sustainable agricultural future. U.S.-German Forum Future Agriculture is supported by the Transatlantic Program of the Federal Republic of Germany and funded by the European Recovery Program of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection.

The initial phase of the project, 2022-2024, consisted of year-long exchanges of two cohorts of 16 German and American farmers, who focused on climate-informed arable agriculture and the digital transformation of beef and dairy farming. Over the next three years, the project will work with three additional cohorts of farmers and agricultural stakeholders to look at land use conflicts between renewable energy and food production; animal health and welfare; and the agricultural labor market in the fruit and vegetable industries.
